This shirt is made from my hand-spun, hand-wove Linsey-Woolsey, then cut and sewn by hand. The body of the shirt is the full width of the cloth, so there is no need for extra seam allowance — the selvages are simply brought together, just as many period shirts were made.
1 – Linsey-Woolsey on the loom, the fabric being woven
#2 – Hunting shirt pieces cut and laid out, ready for sewing
#3 – Shoulder reinforcement pinned in place, showing the neck gusset
#4 – Shoulder reinforcement fully pinned
#5 – Shoulder reinforcement sewn and finished
All of my Linsey-Woolsey garments are custom made. There are no fewer than nine hours in each yard of cloth, from the first planning and warping to the weaving and final stitching. These pieces do take time, yet I am glad to make them for those who value such work.
